To us, at Baba Nyumbani, she is Dorice the Empowered. Her story is the story of a father’s promise fulfilled. Her pursuit of reaching the highest level of education has propelled her into a career she loves within a community she knows deeply. Today Dorice directs our Children’s programs in Kenya and continues to inspire each child and youth with hope and possibility.
Charity’s story is a testament of resilience and focused achievement. Today, she lives in Nairobi with her husband and four children. Charity was part of the first generation of children in early 2000s.
Faith is part of the first generation of children and youth served in the early 2000s. She says it perfectly, “When love is at the base, everything is going to run smoothly”. Faith works as a teacher and continues to empower the vulnerable in her school, inviting the student and school community to surround the child and provide. Her story is a testament of how love ripples from one generation to the next.
After the death of his parents, losing everything, Elijah follows a light in the darkness to a place he now calls home. His story is one of many, many stories the children and youth we empower are navigating and healing through.
Kenyan life is challenging. Most times it is a survival of one day to the next. When you look closely, you can see how poverty separates resources from possibility, creating an uphill climb that never reaches it’s summit. But we can make a difference!
After 20 years of serving children and youth in Kenya, we have learned from them what love truly is. Love moves through all of us and is the best way to empower those vulnerable.
